When a young girl is snatched off the back of her bicycle in 1996, an eye witness gives a solid description of the truck and the man who took her. It wasn’t until the evening news aired that her story and the kidnapper’s profile became local knowledge. But by then it was too late. Her abused body was recovered 4 days later, and the truck was in the wind. If only there’d been a way to get the description out immediately and urgently, perhaps her life would have been saved. Her mother’s crusade to help prevent further tragedy has created an international movement that’s gone on to save lives in the little girl’s honor, but her murder still remains unsolved. This is the case of Amber Hagerman, and the Amber Alert System.
