It's great to see the state decriminalized cannabis, hopefully, in the near future, they will legalize it completely. Virginia marks the 35th state in the U.S to have some sort of laws pertaining to cannabis either legal, decriminalized, or medical laws.
The Longest-Serving nonviolent offender in Michigan is Michael Thompson. The statement below is quoted from FREEMICHAELTHOMPSON.com "His name is Michael Thompson. In 1994 he sold weed to an undercover informant in Michigan. He has been in prison ever since. It has been 25 years. And he still has 35 years left to serve. Michael is 68 years old now. In other words, he was given a life sentence for selling weed. His mother, his father, and his only son died while he was in prison. And recreational marijuana has been legalized in Michigan. Now we’re going to fight to get Michael free. We can do it. We must."
The State of Michigan Legalized Marijuana in 2018 and has been selling adult-use since the end of 2019. Cannabis has been deemed essential during the COVID-19 stay at home order. Nonviolent criminals have been released from prison due to COVID-19. The time is NOW for Micahel Thompson to be released instead of sitting in a cell for a crime he has already paid the price for. 25 Years in Prison is along time for a crime he committed, we have rapist, second-degree murders, arson, and many other crimes getting out in fewer years than 25.
He tried for clemency but was denied by Governor Rick Synder at the time a couple of years ago! The Time is NOW for Governor Gretchen Whitmer to release Michael Thompson from Prison in a state that is selling adult-use products and taking 7 million in tax revenue every week in June, not counting the medical sales. Governor Whitmer was quoted saying “for conduct that would now be legal, no one should bear a lifelong record for that conduct”. It’s time for her to put her words into action."
