On November 29th, 1909, police arrived at a dilapidated New Jersey home to find 24-year-old Oceana “Ocey” Snead lying dead in her bathtub. Inside a pile of clothing on the floor, police found a suicide note. In the months before, Ocey had lost her daughter and husband and had become despondent. Clearly, this was a case of a distraught woman who had taken her own life, right? Investigators didn’t believe it was so straightforward.
