Description

This first week in December, we will be asking God to help us be generous. Generosity is the reason why God gave up his only Son for us.

Who would do anything like that?

Let’s read from John 3:16-17,

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

That’s extreme generosity. Isn’t it?

And, it is what Christmas is all about: generosity.

Remember that it’s not only stuff because gifts sometimes get lost, fade away, or are forgotten.

We cannot specifically tell you how to show generosity.

But, we encourage you to pray so that God can show you the most excellent way to become a generous according to God’s plan for your life.

So, let us pray about all that:

Most precious and loving Father,

You are not unjust and do not forget your work and the love you have shown us through Christ. This Christmas season is a reminder of what you have done for us. You chose to send your only Son, and who dwelt among humans. He was like us all. He bore our sins and died on our behalf later. Who would do something like to the point of losing everything for sinful people like us.

You did it out of your generosity grounded in the love you have for us all. Jesus Christ coming into our world as a baby is also a sign of selflessness. That is why I ask you to help me be selfless like Jesus Christ, and generous just like you, Father.

Show me the most excellent way to do it all, and draw me closer to people who need you the most this Christmas, in addition to my loved ones.

In Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
