Other than hospital workers, no one has had it harder in the last 2 pandemic years than EMS workers. Vinny Variale, President of the NYC EMS Officers Union local 3621, says part of the problem is understaffing coupled with close to 30% out sick with covid. Vinny says the EMS needs equal pay and sick leave (equal to the FDNY & NYPD)- that a starting pay of 35-grand just doesn’t cut it with all the risk his members take.
