It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman, Slackers!

Superman is undoubtedly an iconic figure. Often dubbed the first superhero, he is a character that is often considered hokey, even outdated. In response to this, many comics and tv/film writers have attempted to redefine The Man of Steel for a modern audience, with mixed results.

With the demise of the DC Extended Universe - aka THE SNYDERVERSE - a new team is at the helm. And the question I have is, "Can James Gunn save Superman”?

Although I am somewhat exaggerating the need for the Last Son of Krypton to be saved, as a commercial property the next Superman films will need to strike a balance between a culture that has grown increasingly cynical, if not downright pessimistic, with a character that is known for being unapologetically, inherently good.

Enter James Gunn. Anyone who has seen Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, and the Peacemaker series knows, this is a guy who understands how to achieve honest to goodness emotional connection to comic book characters. A skillful blend of comedy, action, and violence, with heaping does of love, kindness, and redemption.

Also, I just babble about my love for Superman and how the early to mid 80’s was an amazing time for comics fans.
