In an era where information flows freely and transparency is expected, local radio and police scanners are experiencing a dramatic transformation. For more than nine decades, these scanners have been accessible to both the media and the public. However, a swift change is underway as many cities and towns across America are encrypting police radio communications. Major metropolises like New York have already taken steps towards ending all access by the end of 2024. While this decision aims to enhance safety, concerns about transparency and accountability have arisen among the public and media.
