In recent years, discussions surrounding standing for the national anthem have ignited nationwide debates, forcing us to question the significance and relevance of this patriotic act. Recently singer Jill Scott performed a thought-provoking rendition of the anthem, which incorporated the struggles of African Americans and their integral contributions to building the United States. In this episode I discuss the United States national anthem, its origins, controversies, why citizens stand and more.
