In this episode's great conversation, Nancy and Jose are joined by Ed Becerra, the Founder of Education Begins In The Home, a non-profit started in 2015 to improve latino literacy by providing free books to familes. Eight years later, they have provided free books to over 54,000 children! Fueled by a belief that opening a book changes lives. To say the least, Ed is a man of passion and commitment.
Known as the "Book Man of North County" for his many community activities from Oceanside to Escondido, Ed's passion for books began at young age with comic books and an early book presented by a teacher - "Kidnapped" by Robert Louis Stevenson! In 2016, Education Begins In The Home became a program of Empowering Latino Futures, a non-profit with many programs suporting Latino literacy and authors, helping Ed to further amplify his mission.
During this episode, you'll hear Nancy, Jose, and Ed discuss the clients served by Education Begins In The Home, the types of books they need, as well as the organizations, including the San Diego Council on Literacy, supporting Education Begins In The Home.
