Henri Nouwen helped bring the core belief that we are God’s Beloved into our spiritual consciousness. His Beloved Theology emerges from the pages of scripture and emphasizes that God looks at us lovingly. He goes as far as to say, “Self-rejection is the greatest enemy of the spiritual life is belief because it contradicts the sacred voice that calls us ‘Beloved.’ Being the beloved is the core truth of our existence.” To claim our belovedness in God is no small feat. To help, we need to know we are marked from the very beginning.
