I have missed y'all. Do I have some stories to tell you! Actually, one overreaching story… I learned a lesson and some sad news. I didn't learn it until this morning while I was sitting in the quiet with God. So if I had learned it like 54 holes ago. I would've had a better time. I'm gonna share a verse because I just wanna let you know that I did part of this, but I didn't do the other part of it. See if you can guess which part I didn't do while I was on my golf trip. I'm gonna give you a true confession. I'm gonna impart it to y'all.
The verse is, "do not let your dormant be merely outward, arranging the hair, wearing gold or putting on fine apparel."
I got that part down. "Rather let it be the hidden person of the heart with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit." Read that again, be the hidden person of the heart with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. Which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:3-4
If I read that verse before I went on the golf course, I might have acted a little sweeter.
On my golf trip I played horribly. I don't know if any of you that play golf know what happens when you play horrible. At first, you can keep a fairly good attitude. You know, you can think "I'll get it next time". But after a while, if you have not adorned yourself with the gentle and quiet spirit, you will lose it. You will lose your ish. And I lost my ish y'all! I was on that golf course and I was just angry. I was aggravated, I was frustrated.
I just lost it on the golf course. I thought that was the plan. That was it. And not until I was sitting this morning and doing my two hours of study and reflection and writing and reading and gratitude writing... It hit me right upside the head what I wasn't doing while I was on vacation. What I normally do! I did not get up and write my gratitude list. I did not get up and spend at least 30 to 45 minutes listening to a happy, peaceful podcast. I did not read good scripture. I did not spend time reading the stuff that I read every day.
I didn't do it. Y'all, I didn't do it. Duh. What do I expect? What do I expect out of life? When I do not do the very thing in life, that gives me peace. That gives me joy. That gives me hope. That gives me every good thing in life that I have. Why did I think that, because I was on vacation, I didn't need to do that?
I don't know. As a human, I thought of all the things I could do, the technical things I could do. Get my stance right. Maybe use a different ball. Maybe use a different club. All the things, but the very thing, the one thing, the main thing I was not doing.
I know it's a silly game of golf, but you know what? It transcends everything we do. And for me, I cannot start my day without spending time in quiet reflection of what God has done for me. What he's doing for me and what he is going to do for me? Y'all, it's the secret formula. It's the secret sauce.
