The Negritude was a movement that occurred in the mid 20th century in Senegal. The movement was lead by Leopold Sedar Senghor, the president of Senegal at the time (1960-1980). The negritudists believed that everyone should have the right to own a pet all throughout Senegal, An idea that was not yet common in the country. This sparked the movement for household pets to become socially accepted all throughout Senegal.
