In this first Torah portion we share our thoughts around the importance of the book of Genesis in understanding Yahweh’s redemptive plan in the the rest of the scripture. The first 11 chapters of Genesis are so important. Unless we understand this framework it is difficult to fully understand all the Yeshua has done for us and will yet do in the fullness of time for the restoration of all things. We highlight some important themes: In the beginning, Elohim (elohim), Ruach Hakodesh, Gen. 1:27, the Sabbath, Gen. 3:15 and Gen. 6. There is never enough time to cover these important topics of study, so we try to share resources for your own personal study.
Here is the reference mentioned from Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible about another cataclysmic event that resulted in Gen. 1:2, page 76 of Genesis Study Note. Lucifer’s Flood (1:2)
“This flood was more devastating and lasted longer than Noah’s flood, for it destroyed even vegetation (Gen. 2:5-6, Jerm.4:23-25) while the 1 year, and 17 days of Noah’s flood did not (Gen. 8:11,22,9:3) There is no conflict between science and the Bible. Real scientific discoveries must be distinguished from theories, however. Science, especially geology, is still in its infancy and the testimony of rocks uncertain. True statements of God’s word must also be distinguished from man’s interpretation of them. When men finally agree on the age of the earth, then place the many years (over the historical 6,000) between Gen.1:1 and 1:2 there will be no conflict between the book of Genesis and science.”
I don’t know if I agree with the idea that it was a flood but surely something catastrophic and cataclysmic took place (which was a judgment) between the time God created earth (Job 38: 4) and his recreation of earth (Gen. 1:3-25) The 6,000 years is our time now since the recreation. Dake’s does suggest that there is a dateless past that is before Gen.1:1 according to Job 38:4-7. The heavens rejoiced over the creation of earth in time past.

Before Genesis: The Unauthorized History of Tohu, Bohu and the Chaos Dragon in the Land Before Time by Donna Howell and Dr. Thomas Horn.
CORRECTION*** I think I misquoted the title of the book, and called it ‘Before Creation’***
This is a new release and I haven’t read this book in its entirety, I just got it today 10/11 but am intrigued by its premise. So my disclaimer is there may be some ideas, theories, or scriptural interpretations that I don’t agree with in the text.
*** Both Alberino and Howell reference the work of author George H. Pember, Earth’s Earliest Ages which I read an excerpt of from Alberino’s book.
