Today is November 2
Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
Take a moment and quiet yourself. Take a deep breath. Welcome God’s presence. And say, “Come Holy Spirit.”
Today’s reading is from 2nd Chronicles, chapter 29.
20 Early the next morning King Hezekiah gathered the city officials together and went up to the temple of the LORD. 27 Hezekiah gave the order to sacrifice the burnt offering on the altar. As the offering began, singing to the LORD began also, accompanied by trumpets and the instruments of David king of Israel. 28 The whole assembly bowed in worship, while the musicians played and the trumpets sounded. All this continued until the sacrifice of the burnt offering was completed. 29 When the offerings were finished, the king and everyone present with him knelt down and worshiped. 30 King Hezekiah and his officials ordered the Levites to praise the LORD with the words of David and of Asaph the seer. So they sang praises with gladness and bowed down and worshiped.
This passage is telling a part of the story of the restoration of service in the temple. The people are making offerings, and worshipping God. As we begin our time of prayer today can you make a choice to take a heart posture of worship? What is it that God is asking you to lay down as a sacrificial offering to him in worship?
Listen again to the text, and ask God to draw your attention to a simple word or phrase. Try to hold onto that phrase in your mind.
God followers are God worshippers, because – as the psalmist says – we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good. The people in 2nd Chronicles sang praises with ‘gladness’. Can you take time right now to consider God’s goodness to you. Where is your heart glad for what God has provided you with? End your time of prayer today with thanksgiving… listing to the Lord, as we end… all the ways you are glad in Him.
