Description

This episode presents a keynote talk by Dr. Cindy Blackstock from Social Justice Week 2013, called Truth Telling and Actions.

Dr. Cindy Blackstock is a member of the Gitksan First Nation with over 25 years of social work experience in child protection and Indigenous children’s rights. She is currently Executive Director of First Nations Child & Family Caring Society of Canada, and a Professor in McGill’s School of Social Work.

In this talk Dr. Blackstock details the ways in which governmental policies and the law have been systematically used to create and perpetuate deep-seated inequalities that harm the lives of First Nations children. Eliminating these entrenched forms of discrimination requires sustained pressure from Canadians. Dr. Blackstock busts common myths and offers advice to Canadians on how to move forward and become part of the solution.
