- Fierce battles raged outside of Bakhmut in Ukraine as Russian forces advanced on the eastern city with heavy shelling and infantry attacks, according to Ukraine's presidential office on Monday. At least five civilians were killed and as many wounded in action across the war-torn country in the last 24 hours.

- Volunteers in Turkey and Syria are using a Twitter tool to help earthquake victims by reducing noise on the platform and amplifying calls for help. The tool also connects people with rescue organizations. However, these volunteers may soon lose access unless they pay a monthly fee of at least $100, which is too expensive for many volunteers and non-profits operating on limited budgets.
