Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week, a time to reflect on a health challenge that is often invisible, and even when it’s not it can be hard to talk about.
That’s beginning to change with programmes like Farmstrong giving voice to those who have been affected. There are others in the farming family who also work tirelessly to normalise talking about our mental health.
One of those is Federated Farmers president Wayne Langford. A few years ago he found himself weighed down by low dairy payouts, a drought and other challenges.
He shared his journey through depression on social media - and his YOLO farmer page has played a big part in bringing mental health out into the open.
Bryan talked with Wayne and his wife Tyler about their journey, what it was like to struggle personally and what it was like to have your partner retreat into themselves.
