"Drop dead..."These were the words spoken by President Gerald Ford to New York City when they turned to the government for federal help.It was the mid-70s, and financially, New York was hanging by a thread. The city was full of crime, garbage, a crumbling infrastructure--and out of money.NYC was left to face things on its own, and as the 1980s began, the city faced a make-or-break period in its 400-year history. Today, I have an all-new version of an interview I did with Greg Young from the Bowery Boys Podcast; the experts on all things New York. Not only do we look at all the issues NYC still faced in the 80s, but how the city slowly started to turn the corner. But we also look at some of the best movies of the 80s that were set there, the changing NYC television industry (including one of the biggest sitcoms in history that refused to film anywhere else) along with Broadway, and the music scene.
