If you were like me growing up, Kmart was a huge part of your life. Whether it was back-to-school shopping, getting a present for a friend's birthday, or the great memories of the store at Christmas, Kmart was an important place.But this company has faded to almost nothing. This is a look back on the rise and fall of the retail giant. And even though it started in the 60s (and actually has roots back to the late 1800s) Kmart was reaching its peak going into the 80s.This is a story about the problems of growing too fast, not putting your money back into your company, and being unwilling to change as the retail landscape shifts. We often think of the demise of Kmart happening in the last decade, but in the late 80s, and going into the early 90s, the cracks were starting to show...
