It traumatized a generation of kids and almost sank the entire franchise.Today, I look back on the infamous The Transformers: The Movie. Fortunately, this is a movie that has vastly improved with time compared to being a young kid and seeing all the death and destruction on the big screen.I look back on the pure commercial reasons behind the creation of this movie and how toy executives completely underestimated the devotion kids had to the franchise and the characters. But now, after all these years, we can appreciate this movie for the pretty amazing spectacle it is. But it could have gone horribly different...When The Transformers movie came out, the toy and TV series were only a few years old. But here we are with Transformers content continuing to be made to this day. Speaking of that, this summer's movie season looks to be like a throwback to the classic, big blockbuster movie summers of years ago.Besides Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (which finally features Unicron), there's Guardians 3 kicking off the summer, The Flash, Dune 2, The Barbie Movie, Mission Impossible, Oppenheimer, The Little Mermaid, Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse, another Fast and Furious Movie, a new Pixar offering, and the new Indiana Jones movie. There are shades of the summer of 1987 here--and even a bit of 1986. But enjoy this early, and ad-free look at my newest episode.-Jamie
