This is a show I've been wanting to make for a while. But it's one that took a ton of research because it went so much deeper than I ever knew. And, for most of us, it's something we probably had no idea was even happening back in the early 80s. This is the story of the Betamax Case and how, if Universal Studios could have their way, the VCR would have been made illegal. It's a story that goes back to the very early days of the VCR followed by a decision, a reversal of that decision, and then went all the way to the Supreme Court. If you were a kid in the 80s, that collection of home videos you had almost never happened. Not only was home recording to be deemed illegal, but the VCR as we knew it could have been completely banned. It's pretty crazy because this could have altered the trajectory of the entire entertainment industry. The studios had no idea how much money they almost lost and we almost grew up in an era without home video. But thankfully, the most unexpected person came in to help save the day for the VCR...For being a part of Patreon, enjoy this commercial-free first look at the history of the Betamax Case. -Jamie
