Story Transcript:

Et: Kevadine tuul puhus üle Tallinna varemete.
En: The spring wind blew over the ruins of Tallinn.

En: The once-great city's concrete buildings were now covered in greenery.

Et: Igas nurgas kasvasid puud ja umbrohi.
En: Trees and weeds grew on every corner.

Et: Maarja kõndis ettevaatlikult mööda vana tänavat, otsides toitu.
En: Maarja walked cautiously down the old street, searching for food.

Et: Ta polnud juba päevi kedagi kohanud.
En: She had not encountered anyone for days.

En: Secretly, she dreamed of human companionship, but the world had become dangerous.

Et: Kivide vahelt kostus äkki heli.
En: Suddenly, a sound came from between the stones.

Et: Maarja peatus ja jäi kuulama.
En: Maarja stopped and listened.

Et: Heli kordus, seekord veidi tugevamini.
En: The sound repeated, slightly louder this time.

Et: Ta liikus ettevaatlikult heli suunas, märkides maha jäänud jalajälgi.
En: She moved cautiously toward the sound, noting the footprints she left behind.

En: Reaching the ruins of an old shopping center, she saw Joonas for the first time.

En: Joonas was collecting metal and bottles, likely for bartering.

Et: Ta nägi välja ettevaatlik, kuid kindlameelne.
En: He looked cautious but determined.

Et: Maarja vaatas talle silma.
En: Maarja looked him in the eye.

Et: Mõlema pilk oli ettevaatlik, kuid uudishimulik.
En: Both of their gazes were wary but curious.

Et: "Kas sa otsid ka midagi süüa?"
En: "Are you also looking for something to eat?"

Et: küsis Maarja.
En: asked Maarja.

Et: Joonas vaatas teda hetkeks.
En: Joonas looked at her for a moment.

En: "Yes, but there's not much left here," he replied.

Et: Maarja tundis, et selles võõras, hoolimata ettevaatlikkusest, võib peituda liitlane.
En: Maarja felt that in this stranger, despite the caution, there might be an ally.

Et: "Mul on koht, kus on varu.
En: "I have a place with supplies.

Et: Turvaline," ütles ta ettevaatlikult.
En: Safe," she said carefully.

Et: Joonas kaalus pakkumist.
En: Joonas considered the offer.

En: Trust was not easy for him, as he once trusted the wrong people and lost a lot.

En: But there was something in Maarja's gaze that made him lower his defenses.

Et: Nad otsustasid koos toitu otsida, hoides teineteisel silma peal.
En: They decided to search for food together, keeping an eye on each other.

Et: Nad liikusid vaikselt, kuni kuulsid eemalt hääli.
En: They moved quietly until they heard voices in the distance.

Et: See oli rühm teisi ellujäänuid.
En: It was a group of other survivors.

En: Maarja and Joonas quickly hid behind a demolished wall.

Et: "Kurat, nad on liiga lähedal," sosistas Maarja värisedes.
En: "Damn, they're too close," Maarja whispered, trembling.

Et: Joonas olgugi veidi hirmul, tõmbles vihast.
En: Although a bit scared, Joonas bristled with anger.

Et: Ta polnud valmis veel lootust kaotama.
En: He wasn't ready to lose hope yet.

En: Looking at Maarja, he knew he had to protect her.

Et: "Me peame siit kaduma.
En: "We have to get out of here.

En: You trusted me with your place, now it's my turn to trust you," he said decisively.

En: Together they ran, despite the immediate danger chasing them.

En: Once they were at a safe distance, they stopped, panting.

En: Maarja smiled for the first time in a long while.

Et: "Me tegime seda," ütles Maarja, pakkudes Joonasele mugavat kohta enda turvalises peidupaigas.
En: "We did it," said Maarja, offering Joonas a comfortable spot in her safe hideout.

Et: Joonas tundis, et vana haav hakkas paranema.
En: Joonas felt an old wound begin to heal.

En: With Maarja, he had found something that resembled a normal life.

En: Trust, though difficult, had become the key to their survival.

En: Maarja and Joonas sat among the ruins, the spring wind swirling around them, hinting that perhaps there was still hope.

En: Something had changed in both their hearts and the world they shared to survive together.
