Story Transcript:

En: Mateja gazed pensively out the window as the car slowly approached Bled.

En: Snowflakes danced through the air, and the sleeping trees offered a winter embrace.

En: Memories of childhood evoked warm feelings in her, even though she knew a challenging task lay ahead.

En: She had invited her father and sister to meet there.

En: She hoped that the magical winter landscape of Bled would bring them together.

En: When they arrived, Bojan stopped the car and quietly insisted, gazing at the beautiful little church on the island.

Sl: Mateja je globoko vdihnila in skušala ostati mirna.
En: Mateja took a deep breath and tried to stay calm.

En: Meanwhile, Nina was already walking the path that led to the lake's shore.

En: She was more nervous than she let on.

En: She knew that this day would be difficult, but she wanted to fix what had broken last year, when she left home without a word.

En: "Let's go for a walk," suggested Mateja.

En: The snow-white surroundings looked like something out of a postcard, but there was a feeling of tension in the air that she couldn't ignore.

Sl: Medtem, ko so hodili vzdolž zamrznjenega jezerskega brega, je bilo sprva čutiti le pridušene korake po snu.
En: As they walked along the frozen lake's edge, at first, only the muffled footsteps on the snow could be heard.

En: Suddenly, Bojan, with a somewhat lost look on the ice, spoke: "Why did you leave, Nina?"

En: "The same answer as always," replied Nina, her voice sounding sharp, yet fearful.

Sl: "Potrebovala sem prostor.
En: "I needed space.

Sl: Imela sem svoje sanje.
En: I had my dreams."

Sl: ""Ti to ni bilo dovolj doma?
En: "Wasn't home enough for you?"

En: asked Bojan, now his voice with a tremor that Mateja hadn't missed.

Sl: A naenkrat je Nina le ustavila.
En: But suddenly, Nina just stopped.

Sl: "Vse je bilo preveč.
En: "Everything was too much.

Sl: Nisem čutila, da lahko kaj spremenim.
En: I didn't feel like I could change anything.

En: Dad, you never trusted that I could do anything on my own."

En: Mateja noticed how his posture softened when he looked at the little bridge where they once fed the ducks.

En: "I was afraid of losing you," he finally admitted, his voice gentle, almost broken.

Sl: "Pozabil sem te vprašati, kaj potrebuješ.
En: "I forgot to ask you what you needed.

Sl: Preveč sem se osredotočil nase.
En: I focused too much on myself."

Sl: "Nina je stopila bližje, njen glas mehkejši, manj povzdignjen.
En: Nina stepped closer, her voice softer, less elevated.

En: "I'd like you to know that I appreciate everything you did.

Sl: A potrebovala sem svobodo.
En: But I needed freedom."

Sl: "Mateja je začutila olajšanje.
En: Mateja felt relief.

Sl: Saj sta se razumeli!
En: They understood each other!

Sl: K temu razvodu je stremela.
En: This was the reconciliation she hoped for.

En: She realized they didn't need her help, just an opportunity to talk.

En: As they returned, she wished she could keep this peace forever.

Sl: Bojan je tokrat objel Nino z nežnim objemom, v nadoknado izgubljenega časa.
En: Bojan this time embraced Nina with a gentle hug, making up for lost time.

En: "Sometimes we just need an honest word," Mateja thought, smiling, and admired the glow the day left on the snow-reflected lake.

En: In the air, there was a peace brought on by understanding.

En: This time, beneath Bled, winter melted more than just ice.

En: It resolved old misunderstandings and brought a new beginning for their family.
