Ash Wednesday signals the beginning of the Lenten season in the Roman Catholic Church. Just like the pair of seasons of Advent--a preparation for the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ--and Christmas, we have Lent--a preparation for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ--and Easter seasons. We Catholics recall more intensely and deeply the Public Life Of the Son of God on Earth that led Him to be caught and tortured by His enemies among the hardheaded Jews and the pagan Romans. This culminated in His crucifixion and Death on the Cross in Calvary. On the third day after His death He resurrected and appeared to some people.
