St. Peter is asked by Our dear Lord about what he thought about the Lord. He declared the divinity of Christ. He is the Christ, the son of God. Jesus praised him for this since what he declared was fruit of God's grace sent to him at that moment. Instead of seeing Jesus just like he would of any man, he went deeper by the grace of God to the divine identity of Jesus. He was not only man. He was and is and will always be the second Person of the Blessed Trinity. This going deeper into reality is fruit of the grace of God that we need in this life. We should not be satisfied by externals, images, fleeting pleasures, etc. We need to penetrate more deeply so that we do not get deceived by things. It takes for time and effort and the grace of God we need to ask for. Hence, it is easier to be superficial. St. John Mary Vianney arrived at his parish of Ars. He discovered that Christian life was almost nil. He officiated a benediction with the Blessed Sacrament and he asked God for the conversion of his parish and he was ready to accept any sacrifice God would send him. He was a deep person, a man of faith, a great saint.
