Description

The Chosen People of God were waiting for the Messiah to come. God promised a redeemer. They were on the lookout for the signs of His arrival. When Jesus took up the scroll to read in the synagogue of His hometown, He read that prophecy of Isaiah that indicated the signs of His coming. He rolled up the scroll, returned it to the attendant and sat down. Everyone was waiting for Him to say something. He astonished them by confirming that those signs were being done by Him at present, namely, the numerous cures, the sublime and enlightening teachings, etc. But still the gospel today shows us the Pharisees demanding a sign. Jesus this time denies their request. Apparently, He refuses to give a sign. Actually, He did not comply because they refused to appreciate those signs He already accomplished. What do we call that? Voluntary blindness? It is worse than physical blindness!
