This week, Steve emphasizes that liberty comes in the forgetting: “…forget those things which are behind.” There’s a greater goal for the believer in Christ—the goal of the prize of the upward call in Christ Jesus requires me to cut the ties with the earth that hold my soul captive. The heart is always the issue God’s after. One word from the Lord can bring about our liberty. Jesus’s work was to do the will of the Father. We’re invited to partake of that same delight. It may require suffering as a means to know Jesus and further the Gospel. Humility is the wardrobe of God’s Kingdom. The discipline of the Lord is always to bring us into His holiness. He causes discomfort to break us out of the place our soul is locked into, so He can comfort us and restore us. When we hold God blameless for what we’re going through, humility leads, and freedom comes. True freedom is when we are set free from the tyranny of self, and we are truly surrendered to a life that exalts Jesus Christ in every circumstance. Release = liberty!
