"One woman came up with her own idea to honor her calling, and her name is Genevieve Piturro." -Oprah Winfrey
My journey has taken me from a little girl's question in a homeless shelter to Oprah to boardrooms and stages across America to talk about Purpose and the Human Connection.
In 2000 I left my job as a successful TV marketing executive when a sudden inner voice challenged my direction, and I dramatically altered my path. I found my purpose when a question from a 6-year-old girl in a shelter changed everything. I picked up a pair of pajamas and built a nationally known organization and named it Pajama Program. This year the Program celebrates 23 years having delivered 8 million pajamas and books to date through 42 chapters across the U.S.
Going from corporate executive to nonprofit founder wasn’t easy, but after massive fear and doubt, countless sleepless nights, and tears that could fill the Atlantic, I overcame challenges I thought would ruin everything. I met each turn with faith, determination, and moxie. I found and powered my purpose, and the chain of events set in motion by that little girl can only be attributed to the magic of the human connection.
In 2020 I passed the baton of Executive Director to start my next company. I now teach, speak (TEDx), write, and consult on how vital Purpose and The Human Connection are in leadership, team building, and the bottom line. I created the Purpose ACER program, inspiring companies in all sectors to embrace The Power of Purpose and The Human Connection to Be a Voice that Moves the World. My personalized keynotes embrace the life and leadership lessons from my 7x award winning Amazon bestseller, Purpose, Passion, and Pajamas: How to Transform Your Life, Embrace the Human Connection and Lead with Meaning. My second book, Purpose, Passion and Moxie: How to Lead the Way and Leave a Legacy, is a workbook to help you start a nonprofit from scratch to success.
I have been interviewed on OPRAH, TODAY, GMA, The Early Show, CNN, Fox & Friends, The Wall Street Journal and more, and I rang the Nasdaq Bell in 2016.
