In the annals of true crime, few figures stand as chilling and depraved as Fritz Haarmann, the
German serial killer who terrorized the city of Hanover between 1918 and 1924. Known as "The
Butcher of Hanover" and "The Vampire of Hanover," Haarmann's reign of terror involved the sexual
assault, murder, mutilation, and dismemberment of at least 24 young men and boys, though he
confessed to over 100.
