The Locked Room Mystery

Detective Sarah Pearson arrived at the crime scene, a luxurious penthouse apartment. The victim, a wealthy businessman named Robert Montgomery, was found dead in his study, with the door locked from the inside. The only other person in the apartment was his wife, Olivia.

Sarah examined the body and noticed a single gunshot wound to the head. The gun lay beside Robert's lifeless hand. Olivia claimed she was in the shower when she heard the gunshot. She rushed to the study, but the door was locked. She called the police immediately.

The detective searched the room and found no signs of forced entry or struggle. The window was sealed shut, and the room was on the 20th floor, making it impossible for someone to enter or exit. It seemed like an open-and-shut case of suicide.

However, Sarah had a hunch that something wasn't right. She noticed an unusual smell in the room, reminiscent of burnt almonds. She also found a half-empty glass of whiskey on the desk.

Forensic tests revealed that the whiskey contained a lethal dose of cyanide. The burnt almond smell was a telltale sign of the poison. Sarah confronted Olivia with this new evidence.

Under intense interrogation, Olivia broke down and confessed. She had been having an affair and wanted to inherit her husband's fortune. She had laced Robert's drink with cyanide before going to take a shower, providing herself with an alibi. Olivia had staged the scene to look like a suicide, using a spare key to lock the door from the outside after Robert had succumbed to the poison.

Sarah had solved the case, proving that the locked room mystery was nothing more than a cleverly planned murder. Olivia was arrested and charged with her husband's death, facing the consequences of her greed and deception.
