Detective Sarah Pearson arrived at the crime scene, a luxurious penthouse apartment. The victim, a wealthy businessman named Robert Montgomery, was found dead in his study, with the door locked from the inside. The only other person in the apartment was his wife, Olivia.

She had laced Robert's drink with cyanide before going to take a shower, providing herself with an alibi. Olivia had staged the scene to look like a suicide, using a spare key to lock the door from the outside after Robert had succumbed to the poison.
