The Locked Room Mystery

Detective Lila Reeves stood outside the locked room, her heart racing. Inside, the lifeless body of billionaire Henry Ashton lay on the floor, a single bullet wound to his head. The room had been locked from the inside, and there were no signs of forced entry.

As Lila examined the scene, she noticed a peculiar detail: a small, ornate key lying next to Ashton's body. She recognized it as the key to his antique safe, which stood in the corner of the room. Lila opened the safe, revealing a single item inside: a handwritten note.

The note read, "If you're reading this, I'm already dead. My killer is someone close to me, someone I trusted. They betrayed me, and now they'll pay the price. The truth lies within the painting."

Lila's eyes darted to the large painting hanging on the wall, a portrait of Ashton himself. She carefully removed the painting, revealing a small hidden compartment behind it. Inside, she found a USB drive.

Upon plugging the drive into her laptop, Lila discovered a video file. In the recording, Ashton's voice filled the room: "If you've found this, Detective, then my suspicions were correct. My killer is none other than my own wife, Olivia. She discovered my affair with her best friend, and this is her revenge. The proof is in the safe deposit box at First National Bank, under her name."

Lila wasted no time in apprehending Olivia Ashton, who confessed to the murder under the weight of the evidence. She had planted the key and the note, hoping to frame her husband's mistress. But in the end, her own betrayal was her undoing.

As Lila closed the case, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness for the lives torn apart by secrets and lies. But she knew that justice had been served, and the truth had finally come to light.
