Daniel struck a chord with me because, in the first scene, I recognized myself in him as he struggled to help his grandmother open emails on her PC while on the phone, reminding me of all the times I have to assist my grandmother with tasks on her phone in Thelma on Soap2Day. Furthermore, Alan and Gail, Daniel's overbearing and protective parents, were occasionally frighteningly similar to my parents. Thelma's overall strength was its ability to convey genuine feeling from each actor through relatable words. Many viewers that grew up with grandparents or are getting close to that age can identify with something in this.
