Topic: LESSONS FROM THE PRODIGAL SON (Part 2)!
Memory Verse: "So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God" - Romans 14:12 KJV
Bible Text: Luke 15:11-12 KJV
11. And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12. And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
INSPIRATION: Yesterday, using this same text, we drew three lessons on the Prodigal Son: his unwillingness to be accountable; his refusal to be submissive; and his penchant to neglect processes. But these all seem negative, and would appear like it is only negative lessons that can be draw from his experience. That is not entirely correct as we shall see shortly. The young man took the initiative to ask for what was due him. Many of us are too laid back, slothful and undetermined to take the bull by its horn. Those who lack initiatives pass off great opportunities that could have made a huge positive impact in their lives and society.
Those who are prone to taking initiatives do not always wait for all the lights to turn green before they act (Eccl. 11: 4). They understand there would never be a perfect time for everything to fall into alignment. Proactive people are always ahead of their peers in setting the pace. They make very tough but responsible choices that set them apart from the rest. We must quit being that baby that is spoon-fed. The world bows to those who can brave the odds to rise to the peak of their endeavour.
Everyone who's made a meaningful impact in life took a chance at life, kissed the familiar goodbye and set sail on a voyage to discovery and conquered. If they got glued to the harbour, they might never have been able to go down to the sea and do business in deep waters (Psalm 107: 23). Come out of your comfort zone that offers no respite, comfort or glories. You can do with a little discomfort as long as it's legal. Brave the odds, know the rules that apply but there're some rules you must break!
TODAY'S TAKE HOME:
Be inspired by the daring stories of others who, like the Prodigal Son, took the bold steps to try out life on their own terms. You've waited for far too long to act (Deut. 1: 6; 2: 3)!
PRAYER: Dear Lord, please deliver me from the gripping force of inertia that destroys initiatives. I receive grace to conceive bold ideas and the power to act on them swiftly. I refuse to be held back or laid back in my pursuit of worthwhile goals, in Jesus name.
