What does it feel like to have a promise, a blessing or an opening shut in your face? How do you deal with disappointments that put you on the spotlight or make people question who you are or your relationship with God. Behold, the almighty Elijah, having to face a reality of lack and even the source God promised to use also dried up. How was he to face the nation and defend his relationship with God if he too suffered lack? Such an ordeal that resonates with our everyday reality.
But not to despair, God took care of Elijah! Before the brook dried up, he already made provision in a widow! God has never left His own stranded (Psalm 37: 25)! Before you took ill, He's provided for your healing; before the house goes out of stock, He already made provision; before that anxiety wears you out, He's already made a way of escape. Sometimes, the problem is not an absence of God's provision but our insensitivity to what's been provided, or the disdain for the medium He chooses to use to meet our needs. He can still use a raven, a brook or a widow, all to his glory.
