To our community leaders who don’t want to spend a penny on anything? All you have to do is look to our north to tiny Wells…
Amazon is coming to Wells, Nevada. The global retail giant is building a new 12,000-square-foot distribution center in the city’s industrial park — a project expected to bring about 100 jobs and diversify the local economy.
Sheldon Mudd with the Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority says the deal started last October when the company quietly began scouting warehouse sites. Wells won out thanks to years of preparation, including city investment in a shovel-ready industrial park with water, sewer, fire suppression, and high-speed internet.
Construction is already underway on the five-acre site. City and regional leaders say the project marks a turning point for the small town, long reliant on agriculture and travel. If you want to diversify your economy, you need to invest. That’s something the County Commission and City Council need to remember.
