At a recent Ely City Council meeting a former councilman came out in favor of the boondoggle known as the White Pine Pumped Storage project. The former councilman claimed that it would bring twelve million dollars annually to the tax base. Has the former councilman forgotten the Spring Valley Wind Farm which made similar promises, then got tax abatements that essentially nullified all those promises. Plus the Wind Farm didn’t steal our water to the tune of eighteen million gallons a year. Don’t be fooled by what will no doubt be future broken promises by the carpetbaggers at r-plus hydro. I don’t always agree with the commission, but their ten page letter to federal regulators opposing the project shows they get the message.
