In the kingdom of Arendelle, Elsa, the older sister, is born with magical powers that allow her to create ice and snow. Her younger sister, Anna, is energetic, brave, and full of love for Elsa. As children, they are very close, but Elsa’s powers accidentally hurt Anna one day while they were playing. To save Anna, their parents take her to a group of magical trolls, who heal her but erase all memories of Elsa's magic. To protect Anna and others, Elsa decides to hide her powers, even from her sister, and the two grow apart.
