The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 requires the phaseout of incandescent light bulbs by the year 2012 with a lot of stores already beginning the phasing out of these lightbulbs and to be replaced with the CFL or compact fluorescent lights. although the CFL uses 75% less energy, they do contain mercury which can be a personal health hazard if broken or improperly disposed of.
