Description

In the past week, several notable incidents were reported across Fresno. On Thursday, July 24, Central officers and detectives with the Fresno Police Department’s Major Narcotic Unit executed a search warrant in the Safford and Dudley Avenue area. Law enforcement located multiple adults inside the residence. A male, identified as a convicted felon, was allegedly found in possession of firearms, ammunition, and a substantial amount of stolen merchandise. Authorities also recovered over $3,000 in stolen property believed to be related to organized retail theft. During the same operation, another male on parole was detained and placed on a parole hold, while a female was arrested for outstanding warrants. The case remains under investigation as officials continue to process the recovered items and determine further charges. According to department reports, photos of the suspects have not been released due to state law.

Fresno Police Department officials also announced a significant update to a prior homicide case. A suspect, Cristino Paul Rocha, aged 48, who was wanted for the alleged fatal shooting of 39-year-old Paul Fiero back in May 2023 near the intersection of Glenn Avenue and Lansing Way, was apprehended in Waco, Texas, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Rocha, accused of shooting Fiero during an argument and subsequently fleeing the scene, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service with assistance from Fresno authorities. Rocha is awaiting extradition to Fresno County to face murder charges and the case remains open as detectives continue seeking additional information.

Additionally, on July 23, members of the Special Investigations Bureau Tactical Team observed a suspect, Jose Salcido, in Fresno, handing a bag to his mother. Both individuals were detained by detectives as part of an ongoing investigation. The status of this case is pending further review.

A separate incident involved the California Department of Health Care Services and the Fresno Police Department, resulting in the sentencing of a Fresno man for conspiring with a pharmacist to illegally traffic opioid pills. The joint investigation uncovered evidence sufficient to support a conviction, underscoring continued vigilance against opioid trafficking in the city.

Elsewhere, two men were arrested in connection with a recent burglary at a Dollar General store located near 8th and Tuolumne streets in nearby Fowler. The break-in occurred on July 15, with suspects allegedly stealing several bags of cigarettes. Fowler police recovered the stolen goods and detained two men known to authorities for prior theft offenses. A third suspect remains at large. Police are seeking public assistance and describe the individual as wearing dark clothing, a hood, and a mask partially covering the face. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Fowler Police Department as the case remains open.
