Sacramento Police Blotter - Week of June 1-7, 2025

STOLEN VEHICLE/FOOT PURSUIT - Mack Road area. On July 30, 2024, at approximately 2:33 a.m., officers located an occupied stolen vehicle. As an officer prepared to conduct a stop, the suspect fled on foot. Officers pursued and safely apprehended the suspect, who was subsequently arrested on related charges. Case #24-208117.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - UPDATE - During a homicide investigation, detectives identified 30-year-old Jose Alfredo Cortes as a person of interest. On May 9, 2025, officers and detectives located Cortes, who had several outstanding unrelated warrants, and took him into custody. Cortes was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for his outstanding warrants. The homicide case has been forwarded to the District Attorney's office for review.

CARJACKING/HOMICIDE - UPDATE - Following a carjacking that occurred shortly after a shooting, detectives have arrested two juvenile males (ages 16 and 17) with assistance from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office SED team and the Career Criminal Apprehension Team. Both suspects were booked at Juvenile Hall for felony carjacking warrants. The related homicide case will be presented to the District Attorney's office for filing.

CHILD HOMICIDE - On May 31, 2025, a defendant identified as LaShawn Sparks (Case #23FE002146) was sentenced in connection with the murder of a toddler. The case was prosecuted by Principal Criminal Attorney Sam Nong of the Homicide Unit.
