On November 26th, the Henderson Police Department arrested Anthony Coffield, a 35-year-old performing arts and theatre teacher with the Clark County School District, on charges of sexual assault and sexual conduct between a school employee and a pupil. The arrest followed a month-long investigation conducted in coordination with the Clark County District Attorney's Office. Coffield was booked into the Henderson Detention Center and is being held on ten thousand dollars bail. An arraignment hearing was scheduled for Tuesday morning before Henderson Justice of the Peace Sandra Allred DiGiacomo. Investigators currently do not believe there are additional victims. Green Valley High School Principal Kent Roberts acknowledged the arrest in a letter to parents and stated the school is cooperating fully with the police investigation.
On Monday, December 1st, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated a carjacking incident that occurred just before noon at the 5400 block of West Charleston Boulevard near Jones. During the incident, a male suspect carjacked a victim and caused injuries as he attempted to escape in the stolen vehicle. The suspect crashed the victim's car a short distance away and was apprehended by responding officers. Both the victim and suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.
This week also saw a significant statewide law enforcement effort. The second annual Sergeant Abbate and Trooper Felix DUI Blitz took place Saturday evening through early Sunday morning, November 29th and 30th. Conducted in memory of Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix, who were killed on November 30th, 2023, by an impaired driver while responding to a call on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas, the operation produced 818 traffic stops, 414 citations issued, and 49 total arrests with 38 of those arrests being for DUI. Multiple agencies participated including Henderson Police Department along with law enforcement from Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Carson City, and other Nevada jurisdictions.
