Karen is widely regarded as a pioneer in the field of professional coaching in Canada. She is a Master Certified Coach, the highest designation granted by the International Coach Federation, and was the first professional coach to be certified in Canada. She founded her firm, Parachute Executive Coaching, in 1996 and paved the way for many of the associate based coaching organizations in the marketplace today. Karen plays a continuing role in the development of the coaching profession by mentoring new coaches and offering her consulting services to organizations seeking to better structure and manage their use of coaching as a development resource. Karen's coaching experience spans numerous industries including financial services, technology, communications, healthcare, professional services, government, the arts and not for profit. She has worked most extensively in the areas of leadership and high-potential talent development, career management, communication skills and team effectiveness. Prior to becoming a professional coach, Karen enjoyed a successful career in consumer packaged goods marketing and advertising. Having worked both in Canada and the U.S. for both publicly traded and privately held Fortune 500 firms, Karen has direct experience of the leadership challenges that face her clients. Karen completed coach training from two of the industry’s leading accredited schools and is a teacher for both schools. Karen is trained in numerous assessment instruments and processes including The Birkman Method and the Winslow, and worked with Dr. Martin Seligman in the first cohort of coaches trained in his positive psychology-based coaching program. Karen is a nationally published columnist, a frequent contributor to a variety of media and is a sought after keynote speaker and workshop facilitator.
