Description

This week, Burke speaks with award-winning author Noemi Figueroa Soulet about The Borinqueneers, the only Hispanic segregated regiment in U.S. military history. Noemi first became interested in the 65th Infantry Regiment in 1999, leading her to produce a documentary and write a book on the subject. In their conversation, she delves into the regiment’s history, highlighting the contributions of Puerto Rican officers and soldiers, particularly their service in World War I and, most notably, the Korean War. She also shares stories of the veterans she met—some who served in World War II, the Korean War, and even World War I—bringing their experiences and sacrifices to light.
