This is the last week of Women's History Month. We could not allow it to pass without bring honor to Nannie Helen Burroughs of Washington DC. Nannie Helen Burroughs, (May 2, 1879 – May 20, 1961) EDUCATOR, orator, religious leader, civil rights activist, feminist and business woman in the United States. After taking the Civil Service Exam she was denied a teaching position,, which she believes was due to her having a dark skin. In 1909 she founded the National Training School for Women and Girls in Washington, DC. She continued to work there until her death in 1961. In 1964, it was renamed the When she was at the Harriet Beecher Stowe Literary Society she met her role models Anna J Cooper and Mary Church Terrell, who were involved in the suffrage movement and civil rights.
