This week we review and discuss Nosferatu, a 2024 Gothic horror vampire movie directed by Robert Eggers and starring Bill Skarsgard, Lily-Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe. A direct remake of the 1922 silent film of the same name, it follows the story of a woman who has a psychic bond with a vampire.
We discuss what we liked and disliked about Nosferatu, why the Gothic horror genre might just not be for us, how the movie is excellent at creating atmosphere and tension but takes some short cuts in the story, how Nosferatu relates to other vampire lore and folklore and how Robert Eggers makes movies for people with very specific background knowledge and nobody else, and much more.
