While Ford previously attempted to address the problem with software updates in earlier recalls, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found these solutions insufficient, prompting the current recall. Ford does not yet have a permanent fix but is notifying owners and providing an interim software update, with a final remedy to follow.
