Can ‘Doing Nothing’ Help You Discover Your Truth? https://www.jeaninethompson.net/ jeanine@jeaninethompson.net Stillness—The Often-Underestimated, Vital Practice for Self-Discovery & Realization Do you feel like you’ve lost yourself or your way amid the constant flow of information and busyness of modern life? Do you have a nagging feeling that something isn’t quite right, is missing or disconnected? Or do you sense (or know) that some aspect of your life (i.e., relationship, job, finances, health) is no longer fulfilling, off course or dissolving? Life’s greatest invitations for growth often masquerade as unease, yearning, or challenges. Quietly or loudly, the invitation can lead to a “911 from your Soul” that will ask or force you to make a radical shift, as Transformational Coach Jeanine Thompson, a former clinical psychotherapist and highly successful Fortune 50 executive, explains in her new book, 911 From Your Soul. When that 911 arises, your answers and optimal pathway forward are always closer than they seem. Stillness, the one thing that most people avoid, is one of the most accessible yet powerful avenues to your greater self. As you learn to befriend and anchor yourself in stillness, what once felt overwhelming or foggy becomes clear and your truths, capacity, joy and desires for your best life can be revealed and realized. What is stillness? The practice of moving your awareness from the busy brain to the core of your body while deliberately joining the rhythm of your breath’s inhale and exhale, and listening. An energetic quality and way of being that creates space to be curious and connect with (and move from) the Soulful Self. What are the benefits of being still? Clarify – Discern what is true for you. The news, friends, family, employers…everybody has an opinion. But what are your truths? Access – A simple, ever available pathway to expanded intelligence within, around and beyond you that facilitates enhanced problem solving, inspiration, creativity, wisdom, broader intelligence, and untapped latent gifts. Align – In the centered pause you are empowered to choose higher thoughts/feelings/choices aligned with the best of who you are (irrespective of the context: calm/chaotic, joyful/challenging). Rest & renew – Disconnect from demands, reconnect with tranquility, and re-engage on purpose. Presence – Be truly present for those you love and encounter, and for all the beauty in life. How can someone create stillness? Find a quiet, comfortable space (i.e., home, office, nature). Close your eyes. Set the intention to still by saying: I am still. Focus your attention on the core of your body (belly & heart) and begin breathing. Really feel the breath expand your body on the inhale and return on the exhale. There is nothing to do, just be and listen. {If this is new: 30 seconds-2 minutes (first thing in the morning, a few times throughout the day and closing the evening) is great!} There is no need to worry about being still or silent. If you notice busy thoughts, quickly say ‘noted’ and return your awareness to noticing and feeling your breath in your body. Being still is not always silent. Be still in nature with your feet planted on the ground (ideally barefoot) to connect with the earth’s natural rhythm to harmonize your body’s natural rhythm. Listen and notice what you notice – life sends love notes all day to assist you. About Jeanine Thompson
