This episode examines the unsolved 1985 murder of Carmen “CJ” DeLuca, a young gas station manager who was killed during an overnight shift in Connecticut. Investigators connected the crime to a violent multi-town robbery spree after ballistics linked the murder weapon to a non-fatal shooting that occurred the same morning.
Two primary suspects, William Spikes and Douglas Whitehead, were identified, but the case stalled due to clerical errors, the death of a key witness, and the accidental destruction of crucial DNA evidence. Nearly four decades later, cold case detectives and DeLuca’s former fiancée continue searching for the testimony and evidence needed to finally bring legal closure to the case.
