Thanks in advance!Have you ever had a moment — a split second — when you could’ve done right by someone… and you talked yourself out of it?I’m asking for a friend. And that friend noticed something else when that happened…I mean when it happens.Have you noticed how that can feel in the gut? First it stings, but if you ignore it long enough, your heart kinda gets used to it — like getting slowly accustomed to cold water or hot water for that matter. One refusal to do good, and suddenly, turning down the next opportunity to be the good guy or good girl doesn’t even bother you nearly as much. At least that’s what my friend told me.That’s callousness settling in… and then Proverbs 3:27 comes preaching:“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.”Whew! It’s like all your ‘better angels’ are saying, “Do it! Do it! Do it!” And when you follow through and choose to ‘do it’–to act on that good impulse — your heart doesn’t just “stay soft”… it stays sensitive. It stays aware to what God is up to. You become more tender-hearted and alert to what needs to be done next.Which, if we’re gonna keep it 1000, we have to talk about the tension that doing good creates. If you always say yes, people will notice — and sometimes, yes, they’ll take advantage. You can’t pour out endlessly without boundaries. But here’s the balance: Scripture doesn’t say “do everything for everybody.” It says don’t withhold good when it’s in your power. Meaning, when you can do good, when the Spirit nudges you, that’s the moment to respond. That’s not recklessness — that’s obedience. It’s just that simple. And when you ignore those nudges? The opposite happens. You grow cold, mechanically indifferent. Now let me tell you Why This Matters Right NowToday — September 3, 2025 — there’s a press conference at the U.S. Capitol featuring survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell speaking publicly as a collective for the first time. They’re demanding justice — demanding the release of files that could finally give them the dignity they’ve been denied. This is the epitome of a moment where withholding “good” would be a travesty. The survivors deserve truth. The public deserves transparency. The least we can do is pay attention and stand on the side of courage — not comfort.Because here’s the harsh reality: we still live in a world where powerful people can pay enough to shield themselves... Names covered. Tracks erased. Distractions deployed. It’s ‘in their power to do it’. If we shrug and look away, it only hardens us — as a nation, as neighbors, as humans. But when we show up — in solidarity , in presence, in prayer— our hearts remain tender. So, Right Here and Right Now:You either let your heart harden by silence… or you keep it tender by speaking truth when it’s in your power to do so.🙏🏽 PrayerSoften my heart—help me do right when I can.💡 Today’s Challenge:Take 5 minutes today to pause the scroll and read up on the Epstein survivors’ press conference — even if it’s just headlines. Then take one small but bold step: share a thoughtful post, pray honestly for justice, or simply name the injustice out loud in your own words.Let that be a moment of keeping your heart sensitive, not callous.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer.
