He said something like:đ Younger people are always âup.â They're either getting up, or going up, or on the âcome upâ looking up. Even when they say hi their like âWhatâs upâBut he said đ Old people? Itâs down as in âItâs all down-hill.â Theyâre like Slow down, calm down, Iâm a lie down, too much going down. They even nod their heads downward when they greet you! And he was like, âWhen did I start doing that?âOMG! He was so right! I find myself doing it too! When I was young, my elders were always telling me: FreddieâŠslow down, sit yo tail down, be still. But back then, I could not see the value in any of that at all. I thought life was in the going, not the sitting. And thatâs exactly the critique Solomon gives in Proverbs 7:12:âNow in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.âI can almost hear Solomon in his âold man voiceâ â and maybe the older women of the community too â shaking their heads and saying: âLittle miss fast femaleâŠâ (say it with me) âSit yo tail down!âđ The Restless PlotAs this verse paints a vivid picture of a restless woman, always on the move, always on the prowl. Letâs not caricature her and rush to judgment without first seeing her motive: sheâs chasing after attention, craving validation, searching for something that could satisfy her brokenness, and sheâs hustling at the same time...trying to survive. So her energy is scattered, not centered. Sheâs moving in every direction but never finding a place for her soul to call home. And isnât that true of us too? Restlessness isnât always about wild eroticism â sometimes itâs about distraction, overwork, or trying to fill the void with noise, screens, or endless âupâ activity.âš Isaiahâs RemedyThe prophet Isaiah offers a counterpoint in Isaiah 30:15:âIn returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength. But you were unwilling.âNotice the rhythm:* Returning â that means coming back to the heart of worship, back into alignment.* Rest â that means letting the system reset, finding wholeness in stillness again. Thatâs where your strength and:* Salvation â comes from. âNot just eternal life, I know that's what we often think about when we hear the word salvation, but in the Old Testament, it often meant momentary rescue, the strength for the right here and the right now.And then the haunting line: âBut you were unwilling.âThe tragedy wasnât in the absence of Godâs offer â it was in their refusal to sit down long enough to receive it.Itâs the ancient version of âwoulda, coulda, shoulda.âđš Disconnected + ThirstyNobody likes to be told, âSit yo tail down.â It makes us sound restless, desperate, even thirsty. And yet⊠the truth is, many of us are.We scroll endlessly. We hustle nonstop. We chase validation in a hundred little ways. But strength doesnât come from restless pursuit. Strength comes from presence, from quietness, from trust.đđœ PrayerLord, I sit myself downâ choosing rest, quietness, and trust.đĄ Todayâs Challenge:Take five minutes of stillness today. No phone, no noise, no multitasking. Just sit yo tail down.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer.
