He said something like:👉 Younger people are always “up.” They're either getting up, or going up, or on the ‘come up’ looking up. Even when they say hi their like “What’s up”But he said 👉 Old people? It’s down as in “It’s all down-hill.” They’re like Slow down, calm down, I’m a lie down, too much going down. They even nod their heads downward when they greet you! And he was like, “When did I start doing that?”OMG! He was so right! I find myself doing it too! When I was young, my elders were always telling me: Freddie
slow down, sit yo tail down, be still. But back then, I could not see the value in any of that at all. I thought life was in the going, not the sitting. And that’s exactly the critique Solomon gives in Proverbs 7:12:“Now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.”I can almost hear Solomon in his ‘old man voice’ — and maybe the older women of the community too — shaking their heads and saying: “Little miss fast female
” (say it with me) “Sit yo tail down!”💃 The Restless PlotAs this verse paints a vivid picture of a restless woman, always on the move, always on the prowl. Let’s not caricature her and rush to judgment without first seeing her motive: she’s chasing after attention, craving validation, searching for something that could satisfy her brokenness, and she’s hustling at the same time...trying to survive. So her energy is scattered, not centered. She’s moving in every direction but never finding a place for her soul to call home. And isn’t that true of us too? Restlessness isn’t always about wild eroticism — sometimes it’s about distraction, overwork, or trying to fill the void with noise, screens, or endless “up” activity.✹ Isaiah’s RemedyThe prophet Isaiah offers a counterpoint in Isaiah 30:15:“In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength. But you were unwilling.”Notice the rhythm:* Returning — that means coming back to the heart of worship, back into alignment.* Rest — that means letting the system reset, finding wholeness in stillness again. That’s where your strength and:* Salvation — comes from.  Not just eternal life, I know that's what we often think about when we hear the word salvation, but in the Old Testament, it often meant momentary rescue, the strength for the right here and the right now.And then the haunting line: “But you were unwilling.”The tragedy wasn’t in the absence of God’s offer — it was in their refusal to sit down long enough to receive it.It’s the ancient version of “woulda, coulda, shoulda.”🚹 Disconnected + ThirstyNobody likes to be told, “Sit yo tail down.” It makes us sound restless, desperate, even thirsty. And yet
the truth is, many of us are.We scroll endlessly. We hustle nonstop. We chase validation in a hundred little ways. But strength doesn’t come from restless pursuit. Strength comes from presence, from quietness, from trust.đŸ™đŸœ PrayerLord, I sit myself down— choosing rest, quietness, and trust.💡 Today’s Challenge:Take five minutes of stillness today. No phone, no noise, no multitasking. Just sit yo tail down.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer.
